The Egyptian pharmaceutical Constitution (content under construction)

The Egyptian Pharmacopoeia

  • The pharmacopoeia is an official book issued by the country, represented by an authority authorized by the government to issue it. It holds the force of law and includes essential medicines and their monographs, including definitions, specifications, identification tests, purity tests, assay methods and preparation techniques.
  • It serves as a recognized scientific reference for all matters related to medicines and pharmaceutical preparations.
  • These standards apply to medicines intended for both human and veterinary use.
  • It's worth noting that Law No. 151 of 2019, concerning the establishment of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), stipulates in Article 19 that the EDA's Board of Directors is the dominant authority over the EDA's affairs and has the power to take necessary actions to achieve its objectives, including issuing the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia.
  • The Egyptian Pharmacopoeia is published and issued by the main committee for the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia, which is formed by a decision of the chairman of the EDA.
  • This comes as part of the Egyptian government’s general orientation to support the Egyptian pharmaceutical industry, develop frameworks, policies, and strategies to regulate the drug market, and in alignment with the political leadership’s commitment to building a strong pharmaceutical system. This effort begins with establishing a national reference body for pharmaceutical policies, represented by the Egyptian Pharmacopoeia.
