Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Receives the Chair of the Global Harmonization Working Party and Leading Members of the Organization
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, received Dr. Xu Jinghe, Chair of the Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP) and Deputy Commissioner of the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) of China, along with several senior leaders of the organization.
The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation in advancing the regulation and manufacturing of medical devices on a global scale, through constructive dialogue between regulators and the industry. It was held on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the GHWP Technical Committee Leaders Meeting for 2025, hosted for the first time on the African continent by the EDA.
The meeting included a presentation on the regulatory framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority and the best regulatory practices applied in the field of medical devices. It also reaffirmed Egypt’s distinguished position on the regulatory map in the Middle East and Africa, as well as within relevant international organizations.
From the EDA side, the meeting was attended by Dr. Tamer El-Hossieny, Vice Chairman of the EDA; Dr. Yasin Ragaey, Assistant Chairman for Media Affairs and Investment Support and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Care; Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration for the Chairman’s Office; Dr. Miriam Boulos, Head of the Central Administration for Medical Devices; Dr. Amira Mahgoub, Head of the Central Administration for Operations; and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the Chairman for Policies and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
The visiting delegation included representatives from regulatory authorities and industry partners, including Ms EunHee Cho, GHWP Vice Chair and Vice President at Abbott Medical Korea; Dr. Mohammed Majrashi, Chair of the GHWP Technical Committee; Ms. Li Jun, Deputy Director of the Medical Device Evaluation Center in China; Ms. Miang Tanakasemsub, Head of Regulatory Affairs for Johnson & Johnson Asia-Pacific; and Mr. Bryan So, GHWP Secretary-General, in addition to a number of officials from China’s NMPA and GHWP.
This meeting reflects the EDA’s commitment to fostering collaboration with leading international organizations and regulatory bodies, in order to support the development of policies and regulations governing the medical device and in-vitro diagnostics sector. These efforts contribute to achieving the Authority’s strategic goals and Egypt’s Vision 2030 in the healthcare sector.
