"Drug Authority: 13 unlicensed premises and smuggled medicines worth EGP 4 million were seized in July
During July, the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) intensified its efforts with extensive inspection campaigns on pharmaceutical establishments all over the country, in coordination with various regulatory and security authorities.
The inspection included more than 8,000 pharmaceutical establishments from ""public and private pharmacies, hospitals, drug stores, distribution companies, and pharmaceutical factories"", and the violations varied between seizing smuggled medicines or not registered with the Egyptian Drug Authority, and reports of the absence of the responsible pharmacist manager or his representative, practicing a profession without a license, and unlicensed places.
EDA inspectors, in coordination with security agencies, managed to seize 3 unlicensed places in the governorates of ""Sharqia, Gharbia, and Dakahlia"" for storing quantities of medicines and withholding them from circulation, in addition to seizing 2 unlicensed places managed as pharmacies in the governorates of ""Luxor and South Sinai"".
The Authority's inspectors, in coordination with the Free Treatment Department, were able to seize 8 places with quantities of medicines of unknown origin inside medical centers and clinics.
All legal procedures were taken; the estimated value of the seizures amounted to more than 4 million Egyptian pounds.
The EDA calls on all pharmacists and citizens to communicate with it through various means of communication; in case of violations regarding the circulation of medicines, through the hotline 15301 or the EDA's official website.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority's efforts to control the pharmaceutical market, maintain the quality, effectiveness, and safety of pharmaceuticals and medical supplies traded in pharmaceutical institutions, as well as following up storage and circulation places and raiding unlicensed places.
