" Egyptian Drug Authority: 22,645 Pharmacies Participating in Initiative to Withdraw Expired Medications Egyptian Drug Authority: Withdrawal of 3.4 Million Expired Packages
The Egyptian Drug Authority continues its efforts, in cooperation with distribution companies and pharmacies, to implement the initiative to withdraw expired medications from the markets. This comes within the framework of its keenness to enhance the pharmaceutical safety system and protect citizens' health from the risks associated with trading unusable medications. The initiative's efforts have resulted in the registration of 22,645 pharmacies through the electronic link designated for the withdrawal process. These registrations included requests for approximately 4,976,606 expired pharmaceutical units. Through coordination with distribution companies, 3,404,392 units have already been withdrawn to date, while the withdrawal of the remaining 1,572,214 units is currently being completed as part of the ongoing work plan.

This is based on the decision of the Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority No. 47 of 2025, and in accordance with its regulatory and oversight competencies stipulated in its establishment law No. 151 of 2019 and its executive regulations No. 777 of 2020. The Authority works to organize the safe and effective withdrawal of expired pharmaceutical products to reduce illegal pharmaceutical practices and ensure the safe disposal of these products.

The Egyptian Drug Authority affirms its continued monitoring of the initiative's implementation, which enhances the principles of governance and pharmaceutical safety and supports efforts to regulate the Egyptian drug market according to the highest quality standards. It renews its appeal to all pharmacies in the governorates to quickly enter the necessary data through the electronic link designated for the withdrawal process, while emphasizing the commitment of distribution companies to implement the decision according to the specified timeline, in order to achieve the interest of citizens and preserve the health and safety of society.
