Egyptian Drug Authority Elected as Vice-Chair of the African Network of Regulatory Laboratories (NARL)
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has been elected as Vice-Chair of the African Network of Regulatory Laboratories (NARL) during the network’s inaugural meeting, held in Gaborone, Botswana, from October 30 to 31, 2025. The event was organized by the African Union Development Agency – NEPAD (AUDA-NEPAD) and the African Medicines Quality Forum (AMQF).
This achievement comes in recognition of the EDA’s leading role in strengthening quality and accreditation systems across the African continent and as a testament to its continued efforts to support African integration in the fields of pharmaceutical regulation and oversight.
During the meeting, the Egyptian Drug Authority was also announced as one of the main member laboratories (Reliance Lab) of the network — a step that reflects the growing African confidence in the Authority’s analytical and regulatory capabilities. This further reinforces its position as a regional reference body in the fields of quality assurance and laboratory testing.
The Authority was represented at the virtual meeting by:
Dr. Dalia Abu Hussein, Director of the General Administration for Quality Assurance and EDA representative at the African Union’s Continental Medicines Quality Committee;
Dr. Doaa Radi, Director of the Batch Release Administration and Chair of the Vaccines Subcommittee under the African Medicines Quality Forum (AMQF);
Dr. Basant Hany, Supervisor at the General Administration for Public Relations and International Cooperation.
Their active participation contributed to building fruitful consensus among member states, which strengthened the EDA’s success in obtaining this prestigious position and reaffirmed its presence as one of the most influential regulatory authorities in the African pharmaceutical landscape.
This milestone underscores the regional and international standing of the Egyptian Drug Authority, as well as its leadership role in supporting the African Medicines Agency (AMA) in its efforts to harmonize regulatory standards and achieve continental accreditation in pharmaceutical and vaccine testing. These efforts contribute to enhancing the efficiency of African health systems and ensuring the quality and safety of medicines across the continent.
