The Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA)Participates in the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Pharmaceutical Authorities in South Korea

Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the EDA, participated in the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Drug Authorities (AIRIS 2025) in South Korea. The conference was hosted by the Korean Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO). This participation highlights the EDA's dedication to strengthening its international presence and solidifying its position as a leading regulatory body.
During his opening speech, Dr. Al-Ghamrawy expressed pride in Egypt's involvement in this significant international forum. He praised the strong relations between Egypt and South Korea and emphasized the importance of collaborating with the WHO to support innovation and enhance the efficiency of regulatory systems for pharmaceutical products.
He pointed out that Egypt is Africa's largest pharmaceutical market, with a strong industrial base that meets over 90% of its domestic needs. He also highlighted that Egypt is the first and only African country to achieve WHO Maturity Level 3 for its regulatory systems for medicines and vaccines.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy affirmed that Egypt serves as a key gateway for international partners into the African market. He called for enhanced investment and regulatory partnerships to promote innovation and ensure the availability of safe and effective medical products for patients worldwide.
During a session on developing pharmaceutical policies, Dr. Osama Hatem, an Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access, also participated in the conference. He explained that Egypt's participation in this event was a valuable opportunity to learn about the latest global regulatory experiences in pharmaceutical products that use AI technologies. He stressed that the EDA is eager to leverage this expertise to develop its pharmaceutical and market access policies, thereby promoting innovation and ensuring the availability of safe and effective products for both Egyptian and African patients.
The AIRIS conference is a premier global platform held annually to discuss the latest trends in AI-based pharmaceutical products and to exchange regulatory experiences among nations.
