"The Committee of the Egyptian Pharmacopeia Holds its Fifteenth Meeting

The Committee of the Egyptian Pharmacopeia held its fifteenth meeting, at the headquarter of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) in Agouza, chaired by Dr. Tamer Elhossieny, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, with the participation of Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din, Advisor to the President of the Republic for Health and Prevention Affairs, and Counselor Mohamed El-Damerdash, Deputy Head of the State Council and Legal Advisor to the Authority, in addition to representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority, deans of the faculties of pharmacy at Cairo and Ain Shams Universities, and heads of the central administrations of the Egyptian Drug Authority.
During the meeting, the committee reviewed updates on the work related to updating the Egyptian Pharmacopeia . It was announced that (2500) drug monographs and their associated general chapters had been completed and issued, as part of a plan aimed at issuing (3400) monographs by the end of this year, with the goal of covering the largest possible number of drugs circulating in the local market, in accordance with the latest international scientific standards.
The meeting also discussed mechanisms for adding new monographs and chapters to cover the increasing drug needs, and to support the Authority's efforts in the field of control and enhancing the safety and quality of pharmaceutical preparations.
The meeting's agenda also included a review of international cooperation efforts to enhance the capabilities of the Authority's employees, by providing (200) free licenses to use the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and (50) licenses for the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph. Eur), within the framework of international partnerships that support the updating and development of the Egyptian Drug Pharmacopeia.
In his speech, Dr. Tamer Elhossieny affirmed that the Standing Committee of the Egyptian Pharmacopeia plays a pivotal role in developing a national drug reference that ensures the safety and quality of pharmaceutical preparations circulating in the Egyptian market and keeps pace with the latest international scientific developments.
For his part, Dr. Mohamed Awad Tag El-Din praised the efforts of the committee and the Egyptian Drug Authority, stressing the importance of continuing institutional and scientific work in updating the Pharmacopeia due to its direct impact on achieving drug security and providing safe and effective medicine to the Egyptian citizen.
These efforts come within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority's keenness to strengthen the system of drug reference legislation, raise the efficiency of the regulatory infrastructure, and provide modern scientific tools that support decision-making and keep pace with global developments in this field.
