The Egyptian Drug Authority Successfully Passes the EGAC Accreditation Follow-up for the Production of Reference Materials in Accordance with International Standard ISO 17034:2016

The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) has successfully passed the first surveillance visit for the accreditation of its Reference Materials Unit by the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), in accordance with the international standard ISO 17034:2016 for the competence of reference material producers.
This visit coincided with the international peer-evaluation of the Egyptian Accreditation Council by both the African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) and the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC), with the aim of renewing international recognition and expanding its scope to include the accreditation of reference material producers.
The visit's program included a comprehensive review of all technical and administrative aspects, starting from the requirements for impartiality and confidentiality, performance quality control, and moving through production, storage, and traceability processes, up to management reviews and continuous improvement efforts.
The evaluation results confirmed the Egyptian Drug Authority's commitment to applying the highest standards of quality and international accreditation, which enhances its role in ensuring the competence and quality of reference materials and solidifies trust in the health and pharmaceutical system, both locally and internationally.
The EGAC inspection team was received by Dr. Dalia Abu Hussein, Director of the General Administration for Quality, and Dr. Mohamed El-Khatib, Director General of the General Administration of Reference Laboratories, with the participation of specialized work teams from both administrations.
This achievement comes as part of the Egyptian state's efforts to support the national pharmaceutical system and align it with global best practices. This opens up broader horizons for international cooperation and enhances opportunities for exporting Egyptian reference materials to foreign markets. This accreditation also contributes to supporting local pharmaceutical industries by providing high-quality certified reference materials that meet the needs of quality control laboratories both inside and outside Egypt."
