The Egyptian Drug Authority today concluded the activities of the official visit conducted by the delegation of the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products in Algeria, which extended over five days of intensive joint work supported by the World Health Organization, in the presence of representatives of Algerian national entities concerned with the pharmaceutical sector, and with wide participation from the Authority’s leadership and experts.
The visit witnessed the implementation of a comprehensive technical program; it included a number of specialized presentations and technical sessions in the fields of pharmaceutical regulation and oversight, pharmacovigilance, registration, media affairs, and clinical studies, in addition to discussing ways of bilateral cooperation in the fields of technology transfer and capacity building, in a manner that supports Algeria’s efforts towards achieving maturity level three according to WHO standards.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, expressed during the closing session his appreciation for the efforts made by both sides throughout the visit, pointing out that the cooperation achieved during the past days represents a true launching point towards a long-term strategic partnership between Egypt and Algeria in the field of pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation, affirming the Authority’s full commitment to supporting all that contributes to regional health integration and strengthening Arab pharmaceutical security.
For his part, Dr. Cherif Delih, Director General of the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products in Algeria, expressed his sincere thanks to the Egyptian Drug Authority for the warm reception and good organization, affirming that the Algerian delegation has emerged from this visit with practical experiences and applicable regulatory ideas that contribute to developing the Algerian regulatory system and enhance opportunities for industrial and technical partnership between the two countries.
Dr. Nima Abid, WHO Representative in Egypt, also expressed his happiness with the fruitful results achieved during the visit, affirming that the exchange of experiences reflects a successful model of institutional cooperation between member states with the support of the Organization. He praised the technical and regulatory level that characterized the meetings and activities, explaining that the Egyptian Drug Authority and its attainment of maturity level three according to international standards enhances its ability in the regulation and oversight of the pharmaceutical sector and directly contributes to supporting regional health development efforts.
Members of the Algerian delegation expressed their great happiness and gratitude for the high professional level witnessed in all meetings, praising the professionalism, commitment, and brotherly spirit in interactions, and affirming their desire to continue coordination with the Egyptian side to activate the outcomes of the visit and turn them into tangible practical steps in the coming period.
Participating in the visit were a number of leaders from the Egyptian Drug Authority, and on the Algerian side, Dr. Cherif Delih, Director General of the National Agency for Pharmaceutical Products, Dr. El-Khaldia Boutarene, responsible for technical follow-up of GBT-related activities at the Agency, Dr. Khedidja Bouguerra, responsible for planning and technical coordination at the Agency, Dr. Kraimia Oudjdane, representative of the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry, Professor Soraya Sebbah, representative of the Ministry of Pharmaceutical Industry and Dr. Seddik Reghis, representative of the National Agency for Health Security.
From the World Health Organization were Dr. Nima Abid, WHO Representative in Egypt, Dr. Mona Maarouf, responsible for medical and pharmaceutical products at the WHO Egypt Office, Dr. Nabil Menasria, representative of the WHO Office in Algeria, Dr. Esra Ahmed and Dr. Babatunde Jayeola, representatives from WHO Regional Office for Africa.
The visit embodies the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to its role as a leading regional platform for the exchange of regulatory knowledge and the building of effective Arab partnerships that contribute to the development of health systems and the achievement of sustainable pharmaceutical security.
