Egypt as a Center of Regulatory Excellence in Medicines and Vaccines for the African Continent, and the Conclusion of the First Training for African Countries
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) continues its pioneering efforts to enhance cooperation with African countries in the field of drug and vaccine regulation, contributing to improving the quality and safety of medicines on the African continent.
In this context, the EDA recently concluded a specialized training program for a number of African countries in the East Africa region, focusing on enhancing participants' skills in laboratory testing and batch release, within the framework of ongoing cooperation with member states of the African Union.
On this occasion, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, chairman of the EDA, affirmed that ""African cooperation in the field of medicines and vaccines is a cornerstone of the Authority's strategy to enhance health security on the continent. We believe that Egypt, with its expertise and regulatory capabilities, is capable of playing a pivotal role in this field, and providing technical and training support to all countries of the African continent.""
The Egyptian Drug Authority enjoys a prestigious position as a regional center of excellence in the regulatory field of medicines and vaccines in the functions of batch release and laboratory testing, where it contributes effectively to the development of drug systems in Africa in line with international standards. The Authority is committed to supporting and enhancing the capabilities of African countries in improving drug systems, ensuring the protection of citizens' health and improving the quality of medicines available in African markets.
The training program, organized by the Continuing Professional Development Center at the EDA, was designed to cover a range of vital topics of interest to regulatory authorities in African countries, primarily the fundamentals of laboratory testing, and the mechanisms of batch release to ensure that medicines and vaccines supplied to African communities are safe and effective. Advanced topics in the standards followed were also discussed through interactive sessions and practical simulations to ensure compliance with the highest quality standards.
This program is part of a broader strategy through which the EDA seeks to enhance its role as a link between African countries in the pharmaceutical and vaccine sector, and to strengthen its relations with international institutions concerned with health and medicine. The Authority is keen to establish long-term partnerships with African countries to exchange experiences and develop drug control and supervision systems in line with World Health Organization standards."
