The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) participated in the meeting of the International Coalition of Medicines Regulatory Authorities (ICMRA) AI Steering Committee, which focuses on artificial intelligence applications in the pharmaceutical sector. During the meeting, the Authority presented its innovative project, the EDA AI Smart Medicinal Naming Assistant, reaffirming its active role in aligning with global regulatory advancements and international trends for regulating AI uses in the pharmaceutical field.

The project aims to accelerate regulatory decision-making and ensure the consistency of pharmaceutical product names in accordance with Egyptian and globally recognized international standards. This contributes to enhancing the efficiency of product registration procedures and speeding up their availability in the market. Furthermore, the Authority emphasized its commitment to digital transformation, moving from traditional digitization to advanced smart solutions, which enhances regulatory performance, supports the pharmaceutical industry, and solidifies the principles of data-driven governance.

The Authority highlighted the strategic importance of integrating artificial intelligence into regulatory processes, given its proven ability to streamline review procedures, enhance data integrity, and minimize human error. Such advancements are fully aligned with international regulatory best practices and significantly strengthen the preparedness and resilience of Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system to meet emerging global requirements.

The meeting witnessed broad participation from regional and international regulatory authorities. The EDA underscored its commitment to deepening collaborative partnerships, advancing the exchange of technical expertise, and promoting regulatory harmonization in the field of artificial intelligence. These efforts reaffirm the Authority’s standing as an active and influential contributor on the global regulatory landscape, in alignment with Egypt Vision 2030 and its goal of building a knowledge-driven economy rooted in innovation and digital transformation.
