Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), met with the Ambassador of Namibia to Egypt, Philemon Hifindakwa, to enhance cooperation in regulating the pharmaceutical sector.
Al-Ghamrawy: We are committed to supporting technical capabilities and strengthening our partnership with Namibia in regulating the pharmaceutical sector.
Ambassador Hifindakwa expressed his country's aspiration to expand cooperation with the Egyptian Drug Authority and develop joint pharmaceutical policies.
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the EDA, welcomed His Excellency Ambassador Philemon Hifindakwa, Ambassador of Namibia to the Arab Republic of Egypt. The meeting comes within the framework of enhancing cooperation between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Namibian Medicines Regulatory Council, the body responsible for regulating the pharmaceutical sector in the Republic of Namibia.
The meeting reviewed possible areas of cooperation, including the exchange of regulatory expertise, support for technical capabilities, and the development of cooperation mechanisms to ensure the quality and effectiveness of medicines in both the Egyptian and Namibian markets.
At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Ghamrawy welcomed the Ambassador, emphasizing the EDA's commitment to strengthening cooperation with African countries and building effective partnerships with regulatory bodies to contribute to the development of the pharmaceutical system and the exchange of technical and regulatory expertise.
He further stated that the EDA is prepared to offer technical support and capacity building across various regulatory fields. This includes sharing technical knowledge, organizing training courses and workshops, and providing specialized consultations on drug registration and quality control. The EDA is also ready to support the development of regulatory systems and regulations to ensure the efficacy and safety of pharmaceutical products.
Dr. Al-Ghamrawy stressed that these efforts stem from the EDA's commitment to its mission of enhancing the regional leadership of Egyptian medicine and providing safe, effective, and high-quality pharmaceutical products that meet the needs of citizens in both countries, in accordance with international standards.
For his part, Ambassador Hifindakwa expressed his appreciation for the pioneering role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority and its distinguished expertise in regulating the pharmaceutical sector, noting his aspiration to enhance cooperation with the authority in the future.
He also affirmed his country's interest in opening new horizons for technical partnerships, particularly in information exchange, capacity building, and the development of pharmaceutical policies, which will have a positive impact on the quality of medicines traded in the Egyptian and Namibian markets.
Attendees from the Egyptian Drug Authority included Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman's Office, and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
The discussions concluded with an emphasis on the importance of continuing joint coordination and the establishment of a sustainable institutional relationship between the two sides, which enhances their ability to face challenges in the pharmaceutical sector and ensure the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality products for citizens.
