EDA Chairman Discusses Enhancing Regulatory Cooperation and Expertise Exchange with the Swedish Medical Products Agency
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), held a virtual meeting with the Swedish Medical Products Agency (MPA), led by Dr. Ann Lindberg, Director General of the Agency. The meeting was attended by Dr. Torbjörn Söderström, Chief Medical Officer, and Ms. Åsa Kumlien Howell, Head of International Affairs.
This comes as part of the EDA’s ongoing commitment to strengthening international cooperation and exchanging regulatory and technical expertise.
During the meeting, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy emphasized the importance of exchanging technical expertise in regulatory fields, highlighting its role in advancing Egypt’s pharmaceutical system and aligning it with the latest international standards. He also underscored the importance of leveraging international expertise to support the Authority’s efforts toward obtaining World Health Organization (WHO) accreditation.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy further highlighted the EDA’s focus on strengthening the human and technical capacities of professionals in the pharmaceutical sector, noting that collaboration with the Swedish agency enhances efficiency and ensures the highest standards of quality and safety. This, in turn, reinforces both local and international confidence in Egypt’s pharmaceutical system.
For her part, Dr. Ann Lindberg expressed her appreciation for the efforts exerted by the Egyptian Drug Authority in developing its regulatory framework. She commended the notable progress achieved in pharmaceutical regulation and the implementation of international standards, affirming Sweden’s commitment to strengthening cooperation and exchanging expertise in a way that supports integration and advances the level of pharmaceutical services.
The Swedish Medical Products Agency also presented its regulatory priorities and proposed areas of cooperation, particularly in strengthening regulatory systems and adopting international best practices, thereby enhancing opportunities for integration and knowledge exchange between both sides.
The meeting also addressed key priorities for joint work and mechanisms for activating the proposed cooperation protocol. The Egyptian Drug Authority reviewed the main areas of collaboration aimed at sustaining coordination and taking practical steps toward implementation, contributing to the development of the pharmaceutical sector and ensuring the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficacy.
This comes as part of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen international cooperation and exchange expertise with global partners, supporting the development of the pharmaceutical system, keeping pace with international standards, and ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medical products.
