EDA Chairman Holds Meeting with Representatives of the General Syndicate and Sub-Syndicate Heads to Clarify the Regulatory Guidelines for Pharmaceutical Compounding
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy convened an important meeting to clarify the regulatory guidelines governing the rules, procedures, and requirements for practicing pharmaceutical compounding activities in pharmacies. The session aimed to define the specific types of compounding covered in the recent decree, as part of the EDA’s commitment to strengthening constructive cooperation and exchanging expertise through community dialogue with the various stakeholders in the pharmaceutical sector.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Tamer El-Hossieny, Vice Chairman of the EDA, MP Karim Badr Helmy, a Member of the House of Representatives, Deputy Head of the Health Affairs Committee, and a Member of the Board of the General Syndicate of Pharmacists, alongside several Heads of sub-syndicates. This participation underscores the significance of the topic discussed and its direct relevance to regulating professional practice and safeguarding public health.
The meeting focused on several key pillars, primarily reviewing the implementation framework of the regulatory guidelines and listening to various perspectives from partners to ensure the necessary flexibility for developing compounding activities. This contributes to formulating an integrated and balanced vision that supports professional regulation while ensuring the availability of official pharmacopeial preparations of high quality, in accordance with the highest approved regulatory standards.
This meeting comes as part of the EDA’s continued approach based on transparency and community dialogue, and its ongoing openness to all constructive views and proposals, in a manner that contributes to developing the regulatory frameworks of the national pharmaceutical system and keeping pace with scientific and legislative developments at both the local and international levels.
The attendees commended the participatory and transparent approach adopted by the EDA, noting that opening direct channels of communication with all relevant parties, whether legislative or professional, reflects a genuine willingness to incorporate all viewpoints into practical regulatory solutions that keep pace with development and contribute to raising the level of pharmaceutical practice.
The meeting concluded with a consensus on re-drafting specific sections of the regulatory guidelines to explicitly state that standard community pharmacies, in their current form, are not subject to the provisions of this decree, thereby removing any ambiguity for pharmacists. Furthermore, it was also agreed that the General Syndicate would form a subcommittee of sub-syndicate heads to provide the EDA with their formal recommendations and insights to serve the public interest.
