"EDA Chairman Receives Ugandan Ministry of Health Delegation and Representatives from Egypt’s Vaccine and Biotechnology City
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), welcomed a delegation from the Ugandan Ministry of Health along with representatives from Vaccine and Biotechnology City (VBC) Egypt to explore health and pharmaceutical collaboration between the two nations.
During the meeting, discussions focused on establishing partnerships and cooperation protocols that would facilitate the entry of Egyptian pharmaceuticals and human vaccines into the Ugandan market. Additionally, both sides reviewed measures to enhance the availability of Egyptian medical products to improve healthcare services in Uganda.
The Egyptian experience in eliminating Hepatitis C was also highlighted, with the Ugandan delegation commending EDA’s role in advancing Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector, particularly in pharmaceutical development and innovation support.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy expressed his commitment to strengthening pharmaceutical cooperation with Uganda, offering Egypt’s expertise and regulatory support to enhance Uganda’s pharmaceutical system. He emphasized Egypt’s readiness to work closely with Ugandan partners to ensure the availability of high-quality Egyptian pharmaceuticals in Uganda.
The Ugandan delegation praised Egypt’s regulatory advancements, recognizing EDA’s recent WHO accreditation in both vaccines and pharmaceuticals. They also expressed their eagerness to establish a strategic partnership with Egypt in pharmaceutical regulation and market expansion.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Magdy El-Sayed, CEO of Vaccine and Biotechnology City (VBC), Dr. Karim Darwish, Commercial Director of VBC, Dr. Diana Atwine – Permanent Secretary of the Uganda Ministry of Health, Mr. Joshua Musasizi, Senior Technical Advisor, Policy and Planning of the Uganda Ministry of Health as well as from the leaders of the EDA, Dr. Amani Gawdet, Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Head of the Central Administration for the Chairman’s Office, Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate Chairman of the Authority for Policies and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access, Dr. Amira Mahgoub, Head of the Central Administration for Operations, Dr. Hadir Abdel Fattah, Manager of aInvestment support and localization and Dr. Hebatallah Ibrahim, General Manager of Biological Products Registration.
This meeting aligns with EDA’s strategy to enhance pharmaceutical policies, strengthen international partnerships, and balance the availability and export of medicines while ensuring their quality and efficacy.
