EDA explores mechanisms for implementing the digital prescription system

As part of the state’s efforts to support digital transformation and develop the healthcare system, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), held an extensive meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Health and Population, in the presence of Major General Amr Ayed, Assistant Minister of Health and Population for Information Systems and Digital Transformation, to discuss updates on the Digital Prescription Project and mechanisms for integrating it with the Ministry of Health’s system, ensuring full coordination between the healthcare and pharmaceutical sectors.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy affirmed that the digital prescription project represents one of the cornerstones of digital transformation in the healthcare sector, highlighting the Authority’s strong commitment to enhancing collaboration among relevant bodies to ensure smooth implementation and tangible benefits for citizens.
He explained that the project will help improve the monitoring of medicine dispensing, ensure the safe and rational use of pharmaceuticals, and provide accurate databases that support evidence-based decision-making and improve the quality of healthcare services.
For his part, Major General Amr Ayed stressed that the Ministry of Health and Population supports all initiatives aimed at developing the healthcare system, noting that the integration between the Ministry and EDA within the digital prescription project will raise the efficiency of medical services and enhance the quality of healthcare.
He added that the project represents a major advancement in the digitalization of healthcare services and contributes to faster and more accurate information exchange among concerned entities, directly benefiting citizens. He also praised the leadership role of the Egyptian Drug Authority in implementing the project, commending its efficiency in coordinating efforts among stakeholders and its practical approach to ensuring effective on-ground implementation, reflecting the Authority’s strong capability to lead digital transformation projects within the pharmaceutical sector.
At the conclusion of the meeting, participants emphasized the importance of continued coordination and collaboration among all parties to ensure the successful implementation of the digital prescription project, contributing to the advancement of both the healthcare and pharmaceutical systems and reinforcing the state’s efforts toward comprehensive digital transformation.
Participants from the EDA included Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman’s Office, and Colonel Mohamed Tantawy, Supervisor of Digital Transformation and Automation Projects.
From the Ministry of Health and Population, Colonel Mohamed Gad, Deputy for Digital Transformation, participated.
Also attending from the private sector and partner entities were Eng. Hatem Kandil, Executive Director of DAF Company, and Dr. Mohamed Youssef, Development Director at Fixed Egypt.
