EDA Participates in the 2nd Supply Chain Conference to Strengthen Healthcare
EDA Assistant Chairman: The Authority Plays a Pivotal Role in Strengthening Pharmaceutical Supply Chains
The Egyptian Drug Authority participated in the second edition of the Supply Chain Conference, held under the theme “Smart Supply Chains – Better Care”, organized by the General Authority for Healthcare, headed by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare.
In his speech, Dr. Yasin Ragaey, Assistant Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, highlighted that successive global crises have underscored the importance of healthcare supply chains as a fundamental pillar of national health security. He emphasized that a precise supply chain is the cornerstone of efforts to localize the pharmaceutical industry, noting that the local manufacturing rate has exceeded 91%.
He further confirmed the significant growth of the pharmaceutical industry’s infrastructure, which now includes more than 183 factories and over 1,000 production lines. This progress has contributed to the localization of 234 pharmaceutical products, resulting in import cost savings of approximately USD 691 million. He also noted that the sustainability of healthcare supply chains depends on integration and collaboration among all stakeholders, which has supported a 21% growth in pharmaceutical exports over the past year.
Dr. Ragaey also highlighted the success of the EDA’s digital transformation policies, particularly through the implementation of advanced electronic systems such as the pharmaceutical track-and-trace system, which enhances transparency across supply chains, combats the trade of pharmaceutical products outside the formal healthcare system, and ensures the timely delivery of safe medications to citizens.
Concluding his speech, he stressed the importance of international cooperation with regulatory authorities and health organizations, as well as the need to promote innovation and leverage data and advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, to improve healthcare supply chains. These efforts contribute to strengthening pharmaceutical localization and ensuring the stability of pharmaceutical supplies in the local market.
