Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received a high-level Lebanese delegation that included members of the Lebanese Parliament and officials from the World Health Organization (WHO), during a visit aimed at learning about Egypt’s pioneering experience in pharmaceutical regulation, registration, and oversight.
At the start of the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy welcomed the Lebanese delegation, emphasizing the deep fraternal relations between Egypt and Lebanon and praising the Lebanese Parliament’s active role in supporting health and legislative policies that serve Arab citizens.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy noted that this visit reflects the spirit of Arab cooperation and aligns with the EDA’s commitment to sharing its regulatory expertise with Arab counterparts. Such collaboration, he stated, contributes to strengthening Arab pharmaceutical security and enhancing the ability of Arab countries to ensure the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines for all.
He added that Egypt’s institutional development and the international recognitions it has achieved in the pharmaceutical field are the result of the strong support of the political leadership and the state’s commitment to establishing a national pharmaceutical system that meets global standards. This has positioned the Egyptian Drug Authority as a regional and Arab model in pharmaceutical regulation, oversight, and quality assurance.
The Lebanese delegation was given a field tour of the EDA headquarters, which included visits to the quality control laboratories and the technical and regulatory departments. During the tour, they were introduced to the stages of pharmaceutical product evaluation—from registration and technical review to final quality approval—as well as the advanced digital systems implemented by the EDA for monitoring, traceability, and ensuring drug safety.
Members of the Lebanese delegation expressed great admiration for the EDA’s institutional and regulatory progress, emphasizing that Egypt’s experience represents a leading Arab model in supporting sustainable health policies, strengthening regional pharmaceutical integration, and building regulatory systems capable of meeting global challenges in the pharmaceutical sector.
The meeting was attended on behalf of the Egyptian Drug Authority by:
Dr. Tamer Elhossieny, Vice Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority
Dr. Rasha Ziada, Assistant to the EDA Chairman for Technical Development and Capability Building Affairs
Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman’s Office
Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access
From the Lebanese side, attendees included:

as well as Dr. Alissar Radi, Health Systems Coordinator at the WHO Office in Lebanon, Dr. Jasser Jad El-Karim, Health Systems Coordinator at the WHO Office in Egypt, and Dr. Mona Maarouf, Officer for Medicines and Pharmaceuticals at the WHO Office in Cairo.
The visit reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s ongoing efforts to maintain its regional and international leadership role, and to promote joint Arab cooperation aimed at harmonizing pharmaceutical regulatory visions and policies across the Arab world. This contributes to achieving pharmaceutical self-sufficiency and improving the quality of healthcare provided to Arab citizens.
