Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), participated in the opening of the Indian–Egyptian Pharmaceutical Industries Forum, held as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of India in the fields of healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
The opening session was attended by H.E. Mr. Suresh K. The forum also witnessed the participation of an Indian delegation comprising approximately 70 pharmaceutical companies, under the auspices of the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil). This participation follows the outcomes of bilateral meetings held between Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy and H.E. Mr. Jagat Prakash Nadda, Minister of Health and Family Welfare of the Republic of India, on the sidelines of the roundtable convened in November 2025. This reflects the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries and their shared commitment to expanding partnership horizons in the pharmaceutical sector.
In his address during the opening session, Dr. El-Ghamrawy emphasized the strategic importance of the Egyptian market in the fields of pharmaceutical raw materials and medical products, highlighting the promising opportunities it offers for investment and expansion. He pointed to the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority in supporting the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing and enhancing the diversification and security of raw material sources, thereby contributing to pharmaceutical security and ensuring the sustainability of supply chains.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy noted that the Authority places particular importance on strengthening cooperation with international partners and global regulatory bodies in a manner that supports the alignment of regulatory standards, facilitates access to high-quality medical products, and promotes the transfer of technology and expertise. He reaffirmed the EDA’s commitment to providing an attractive, investment-friendly regulatory environment that enhances the competitiveness of the national pharmaceutical industry and consolidates Egypt’s regional position in pharmaceutical manufacturing and regulation.
The forum addressed several key areas, including active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), finished pharmaceutical products, veterinary medicines, medical devices and surgical supplies, dietary supplements, cosmeceuticals, various pharmaceutical dosage forms (including pellets), as well as injectable products, reflecting the wide range of potential areas for cooperation between the two sides.
The forum also featured direct bilateral meetings (Buyer–Seller Meetings) between representatives of Indian and Egyptian companies, in addition to meetings with industrial federations and government officials. These meetings aimed to explore opportunities for joint cooperation, technology transfer, and increasing the volume of trade and investment exchange in the pharmaceutical sector.
For his part, Ambassador Suresh K. Reddy stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral engagement between Egyptian and Indian companies, noting that the forum represents an ideal platform for expanding pharmaceutical cooperation, increasing joint investments, and facilitating the transfer of expertise and technology. He emphasized that such cooperation would enhance the competitiveness of the pharmaceutical industry in Egypt and reflects the depth of the strategic relations between the two countries.
He also praised the leading role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority in supporting the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing and enhancing the quality of pharmaceutical products, affirming that Egypt is a pivotal strategic partner for India in the region. He added that cooperation with the EDA represents a distinguished model for expertise exchange and technology transfer, contributing to strengthening pharmaceutical security and advancing the pharmaceutical sector at both the regional and international levels.
This participation reflects the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to strengthening frameworks for international cooperation and exchanging technical and scientific expertise with global partners, in a manner that contributes to the development of the pharmaceutical regulatory system and supports Egypt’s leading role as a regional hub for pharmaceutical regulation.
