"Egyptian Drug Authority: Unlicensed warehouses containing unidentified pharmaceutical and cosmetic products seized in 5 governorates… confiscations estimated at around 12 million EGP
Ongoing inspection campaigns continue, with emphasis on dealing only with licensed pharmaceutical establishments and reporting any violations via the hotline 15301.
The Egyptian Drug Authority, through its pharmaceutical inspection teams across its branches and in coordination with relevant security agencies, carried out intensive inspection campaigns in several governorates, including Cairo, Giza, Qalyubia, Beni Suef, and Alexandria. These efforts resulted in the seizure of a number of unlicensed warehouses used to promote unidentified pharmaceutical and cosmetic products, as part of the Authority’s efforts to tighten control over the Egyptian drug market.
This comes within the framework of the Authority’s commitment to ensuring the availability of safe, effective, and high-quality medicines and medical products, as well as its continued efforts to strengthen monitoring and oversight systems and ensure compliance with the legal requirements governing the circulation of medical products.
In Cairo Governorate, the inspection unit in Nasr City, in coordination with security authorities, seized an unlicensed warehouse used for storing and selling various unregistered medical supplies. The seized items were estimated at around 5 million EGP.
Another warehouse in Heliopolis was also seized for storing and selling unregistered dietary supplements of unknown origin, with an estimated value of about 100,000 EGP.
In Qalyubia Governorate, specifically in Obour City, inspection campaigns in coordination with the General Department of Supply Investigations successfully seized an unlicensed warehouse used for filling, packaging, and selling unidentified cosmetic products. Quantities of raw materials, empty containers, counterfeit labels, and finished products ready for circulation were confiscated. The total value was estimated at around 5 million EGP, and the person in charge of the activity was arrested.
In Giza Governorate, an unlicensed warehouse in Mohandessin was seized for trading unregistered and unidentified medicines, with an estimated value of about 2 million EGP.
Additionally, the Internet Crimes Unit of the Central Inspection Administration, in coordination with security agencies, seized an unlicensed medical services office in Dokki that was trading medical products online. These included dental anesthetics listed under monitoring, as well as unidentified filler and Botox products. Quantities were confiscated that were being sold at prices exceeding the fixed official price.
In Beni Suef Governorate, inspectors seized two unlicensed pharmacies and confiscated the medicines found inside them. Meanwhile, campaigns in Alexandria resulted in the seizure of an unlicensed medical supplies warehouse inside a hospital, along with violations related to fixed pricing regulations.
All necessary legal measures have been taken regarding the incidents, and official reports have been filed in preparation for referral to the Public Prosecution.
The Egyptian Drug Authority affirms the continuation of its inspection campaigns across all governorates and its firm action against any practices that harm citizens’ health.
It also urges citizens not to purchase medicines through unlicensed online platforms and to report any violations through the Authority’s official communication channels or the hotline 15301, in order to protect public health and safety."
