"Within the framework of the Memorandum of Understanding cooperation protocol between the two parties Monitoring the access of Egyptian Pharmaceutical Products into Zambia
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, received an official delegation from the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA), with the aim of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries in the pharmaceutical field, and discussing mechanisms to facilitate the procedures for registering Egyptian medicines in the Zambian market.
During the meeting, Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy emphasized the importance of joint cooperation between the two countries in exchanging expertise and developing regulatory systems, pointing to Egypt's leading role in supporting healthcare integration across the African continent, he noted that the EDA holds wide international recognition as the first regulatory authority in Africa to achieve Maturity Level 3 (ML-3) from the World Health Organization (WHO) for pharmaceutical and vaccine manufacturing.
He also emphasized the EDA’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at expanding the access of Egyptian pharmaceutical products in African markets.
During the visit, the Zambian delegation toured the EDA’s laboratories, where they learned about the latest technologies used in regulating and monitoring the quality of pharmaceutical products in accordance with international standards.
The members of the Zambian delegation expressed their admiration for the advanced capabilities of the EDA, praising its role in supporting the Egyptian pharmaceutical sector and enhancing its competitiveness at the regional and international levels.
It is worth noting that the General Administration of Public Relations & International Cooperation (PRIC) at the EDA accompanied the Zambian delegation on a field tour of the Egyptian Medicine City ""GyptoPharma"", one of the largest pharmaceutical industrial facilities in the Middle East and Africa. During the tour, the delegation was briefed on the latest technologies used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products and received a detailed presentation on modern manufacturing processes and quality standards followed to ensure that products conform to the highest international specifications. The efforts of the Medicine City in supporting pharmaceutical innovation and enhancing local production were also reviewed, which contributes to achieving pharmaceutical products security and increasing the competitiveness of Egyptian products in international markets.
The members of the Zambian delegation expressed their appreciation for the advanced manufacturing capabilities of ""GyptoPharma"", its commitment to applying the highest international quality standards, and its role in enhancing Egypt's position as a leading country in the pharmaceutical industry at the regional and international levels.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Tamer Elhossieny, Vice Chairman of the EDA, Dr. Rasha Ziada, Assistant Chairman of the EDA for Technical Development and Building Capacity Affairs, Prof. Hanan Amin, Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Products, Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman Office, Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access, Dr. Wedyan Younes, Head of the Central Administration for Drug Control, Dr. Hamada Gamal, Chairman Associate for Updating and Developing Systems for Registering Medical Products & General Manager of Human Drug Registration at the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Products, Dr. Dalia Abouhussein, General Manager of Quality Assurance General Administration at EDA & the EDA's representative in the African Medicine Regulatory Harmonization (AMRH) Steering Committee.
From the Zambian side, Dr. Makomani Siyanga, Director General of the Zambia Medicines Regulatory Authority, Dr. Bonaventure Chilinde, Director-Laboratory Services at National Drugs Quality Control Laboratory at ZAMRA and Chairperson of the African Medicine Quality Forum Technical Committee of the African Union Development Agency, Dr. Dr. Nyambe Lyoko Director of the Marketing Authorization Department at ZAMRA, Dr. Don Sandii Mwangana, Pharmaceutical Principal Inspector - Licensing & Enforcement at ZAMRA.
The participation of the EDA reflects Egypt's commitment to enhancing African cooperation and supporting Egyptian leadership in the field of pharmaceutical regulation, which contributes to deepening regional integration and increasing the penetration of Egyptian medicine into African markets.
