The Egyptian Drug Authority announced the Pharmacovigilance Pharmaceutical Care Initiative, "Together Towards Safe Medicine," for community pharmacies. The first phase of the initiative was launched at the end of December 2021.
The initiative aims to contribute to the development of pharmaceutical care across all community pharmacies in the Arab Republic of Egypt and enhance the services provided by community pharmacies by offering adverse drug reaction (ADR) reporting services and improving pharmacists' technical performance through the implementation of global medication safety activities, as well as promoting and activating the practice of pharmacovigilance and fostering a culture of adverse drug reaction reporting in the Egyptian market, thereby ensuring the availability of safe medicines for Egyptian patients.
The initiative was announced in November 2021 and was designed to be implemented through six cohorts, with each cohort lasting three and a half months.
All governorates across Egypt participated in the "Together Towards Safe Medicine" initiative.
Among the participating pharmacies during the first three cohorts, 71% were private community pharmacies, while 29% were outpatient pharmacies affiliated with government hospitals.
