It is an official document issued by the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) to standardize pharmacy practices, ensure the safe and rational use of medications, and reduce medical errors within hospitals and pharmacies to protect patient safety. It includes:
  • It is the official Egyptian Non-Prescription Medication list, and those are the medications that pharmacists are authorized to dispense without a prescription. It highlights EDA's role in regulating the pharmaceutical market and in assessing the suitability of medical products for self-care, enabling patients to safely self-medicate for minor illnesses. And specifying the requirements and controls for dispensing each product.

  • These are standardized lists that specify the medicines and supplies that must be available for resuscitation in the critical care cabinets in hospitals; they highlight EDA's role in responding quickly to crises and ensuring the saving of patients' lives in emergencies (such as cardiac arrest) based on the latest scientific evidence.

Egyptian Do Not Crush Medication List 2026

  •  It is a national guidance list that includes categories of medication that must never be crushed, broken, or chewed before swallowing (such as extended-release or enteric-coated medications), and it highlights EDA's role in protecting patients (especially those who have difficulty swallowing or receive medication via feeding tubes) from the risk of poisoning or treatment failure due to mishandling of the medication form.

  • This is a national list of essential medicines that should be continuously available, in adequate quantities, to meet the priority healthcare needs of the population within an effective healthcare system. The list also includes therapeutic alternatives that may be used when a medicine on the essential medicines list is unavailable, serving as secondary treatment options for specific clinical indications. It highlights the Egyptian Drug Authority’s (EDA) role in ensuring the availability of essential medicines and appropriate alternatives, strengthening access to treatment, and supporting national pharmaceutical security.

  •  A standardized list of high-alert medications. High alert medications are drugs that carry a significant risk of causing serious harm to patients if used incorrectly. While mistakes with these medications may not occur more frequently than with others, the consequences of errors can be particularly severe. Therefore, these medications require special precautions to minimize the risk of errors.

EDA PBRER Supplementary List

a comprehensive list published by EDA and updated every 3 months containing a list of active substances and combinations of active substances contained in medicinal products subject to different marketing authorizations that are not included in the EURD list which are the following: those registered only in one European country, those registered in FDA &/or Japan only & Non reference, together with the corresponding, frequencies for submission of periodic safety update reports, related data lock points, next submission date.
