Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, held a meeting with representatives of Mina Pharm, headed by Dr. Wafik Saad El-Bardisi, Chairman and Managing Director of the Group, to discuss a strategic project for the development and manufacturing of an Ebola vaccine, as part of supporting the Egyptian state's efforts to localize vaccine and biological products manufacturing and strengthen national capacities to respond to epidemics and public health emergencies.
Dr. Ali Al-Ghamrawy emphasized the project's importance in supporting health security at both the Egyptian and African levels, strengthening Egypt’s capabilities in the development and manufacturing of vaccines and biological products, reinforcing its position as a regional hub for these industries, and contributing to the provision of sustainable solutions for handling epidemics and public health emergencies.
For their part, Mina Pharm representatives commended the regulatory role played by the EDA in supporting and developing the vaccine and biological products industry. They emphasized the importance of continued cooperation and coordination with the Authority, which would contribute to accelerating technology transfer and the localization of manufacturing, as well as strengthening national capabilities in vaccine production in accordance with the latest international standards for quality, safety, and efficacy.
The meeting covered the scientific, regulatory, and manufacturing aspects of the project, discussing cooperation mechanisms with the participating international entities and companies. The proposed regulatory pathway for facilitating and expediting the development and registration procedures for the vaccine was also discussed, while ensuring compliance with the applicable requirements and standards to guarantee quality, safety, and efficacy. The two sides further discussed the project’s implementation phases, leading to the integrated manufacturing of the vaccine within the Arab Republic of Egypt.
This initiative falls within the EDA’s efforts to support the localization of vaccine and biological products manufacturing, encourage national investments in strategic pharmaceutical industries, and promote the transfer and localization of advanced technologies. These efforts contribute to strengthening pharmaceutical and health security, enhancing national manufacturing capabilities, and strengthening Egypt’s preparedness to respond to epidemics and public health emergencies.
