EDA Chairman Receives CEO of the Ghana FDA to Strengthen Regulatory Cooperation in the Pharmaceutical Sector
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received Prof. Kwabena Manso, Chief Executive Officer of the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana, as part of efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the pharmaceutical and regulatory fields.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy welcomed the Ghanaian FDA CEO, affirming the depth and strength of the longstanding relations between Egypt and Ghana, which are built on mutual respect, cooperation, and shared interests. He reviewed the key achievements of the Authority, highlighted by obtaining Maturity Level 3 from the World Health Organization (WHO), reflecting growing international confidence in the efficiency of Egypt’s regulatory system.
He also commended the pivotal role played by the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority in regulating and monitoring medical products, emphasizing the shared commitment to enhancing cooperation and exchanging expertise to support the development of regulatory systems and promote public health in both countries.
He further stressed that the Egyptian Drug Authority continues its pioneering approach to advancing the pharmaceutical regulatory system in line with international best practices, with full commitment to transparency, quality, and the protection of public health. He added that cooperation with international regulatory authorities, foremost among them the Ghana Food and Drugs Authority, represents a strategic step toward building strong partnerships, exchanging expertise, and strengthening regulatory capacities, positioning Egypt as a leading African model in pharmaceutical and medical product regulation.
For his part, Prof. Kwabena Manso expressed his appreciation for the significant progress achieved by the Egyptian Drug Authority in the areas of regulation and quality. He affirmed that the Authority’s advancement represents a pioneering African model in pharmaceutical regulation. He noted that this remarkable progress reflects full adherence to international standards and the highest levels of regulatory efficiency, making it a benchmark for building regulatory systems across the continent.
He also emphasized that cooperation with the Egyptian Drug Authority would enhance knowledge exchange and capacity building, contributing to strengthening health security and ensuring the availability of safe and effective medical products across African countries.
This comes within the framework of the Egyptian Drug Authority’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with international regulatory bodies, particularly the Food and Drugs Authority of Ghana, as a key step toward exchanging expertise and advancing regulatory systems in line with global best practices.
