Fitch Commends Egypt’s Pharmaceutical Policy Development for the Third Time in 2026, Highlighting New Pricing Mechanisms to Strengthen Local Manufacturing, Advance Localization and Attract Further Investment
A report issued by BMI–Fitch in early October 2026 commended the decision of the Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) to develop Egypt’s pharmaceutical pricing framework, highlighting its role in supporting the continuity of medicine supplies and strengthening local manufacturing—two key pillars of medicine availability and pharmaceutical sector sustainability.
Titled “Egypt’s New Drug Pricing Framework Will Support Drug Supply and Local Manufacturing,” the report highlighted the framework’s potential to enhance supply sustainability, encourage pharmaceutical localization and support access to modern treatments.
Building on the international recognition received by Egypt’s pharmaceutical policies in July, the report reflects continued international interest in the country’s efforts to develop its pharmaceutical sector.
The report emphasized that pricing mechanisms that respond more effectively to economic and market changes can help ease pressures on production and medicine availability. It also highlighted the role of pricing policies in supporting supply chains, strengthening the competitiveness of the national industry and improving its capacity to meet patients’ needs.
A central theme was the importance of balancing medicine availability with sustainable production and supply, while creating an environment that supports continued investment and pharmaceutical market stability.
The EDA continues to develop regulatory and pricing frameworks and review relevant policies in line with economic developments and market needs, supporting data- and evidence-based decision-making.
These efforts form part of an integrated vision to strengthen Egypt’s pharmaceutical security, expand national manufacturing capacity, encourage localization and investment, and enhance access to medicines and modern treatments.
