| In Support of Health Integration Between Egypt and Mauritania Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Receives Mauritania’s Minister of Health to Discuss Cooperation in Pharmaceutical Regulation ………………………. Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, welcomed a high-level delegation from the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, led by H.E. Dr. Abdallahi Weddih, Minister of Health, and joined by H.E. Houssein Deh, Ambassador of Mauritania to Cairo, as well as senior health officials and specialists in pharmaceuticals and health insurance. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral relations in the health sector between Egypt and Mauritania, reflecting both sides’ commitment to establishing a partnership based on knowledge exchange and regulatory collaboration. It also marks an advanced step toward supporting sustainable health development in Africa through integration with leading regulatory institutions. At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy welcomed the delegation and affirmed that cooperation with fellow African nations is a key strategic pillar for the EDA, especially amid the rapid evolution of the pharmaceutical sector both regionally and globally. He expressed EDA’s full readiness to share its expertise and expand cooperation with Mauritania to help develop their pharmaceutical and health regulatory systems. In turn, the Mauritanian Minister of Health praised the progress achieved by the Egyptian Drug Authority, describing it as an inspiring model in regulatory governance and institutional development. He noted Mauritania’s eagerness to deepen technical cooperation and benefit from Egypt’s experience in advancing its pharmaceutical sector. The visit included a field tour of EDA’s laboratories, where the delegation observed the latest technologies used in pharmaceutical and vaccine testing and analysis. They also attended presentations highlighting the Authority’s regulatory mechanisms, interdepartmental integration, and the achievements that enabled Egypt to reach WHO Maturity Level 3 for regulatory systems for both medicines and vaccines, making it the first African authority to do so under the WHO framework. The Mauritanian delegation expressed their appreciation for the remarkable progress of the Egyptian Drug Authority and emphasized the importance of leveraging this pioneering experience to enhance Mauritania’s pharmaceutical system and build sustainable scientific and regulatory capacity. The Mauritanian side included; Mr. Hamahoullah Cheikh, Director General of the Central Authority for Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Procurement (CAMEC); Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Jaafar Dhehby, Director General of the National Health Insurance Fund. Representing the Egyptian Drug Authority were Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman Office ; and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration of Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
