Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy: Localizing pharmaceutical manufacturing is a national priority to achieve drug security and support domestic investment.
Ambassador Georg Postinger: The Egyptian market serves as a strategic gateway to African and Arab markets.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received an official delegation from the Austrian Embassy in Cairo, headed by H.E. Ambassador Georg Postinger, Ambassador of Austria to the Arab Republic of Egypt, along with a delegation from EVER Pharma, led by Mr. George Kahwaty, the company’s Global General Manager. The meeting aimed to strengthen cooperation between Egypt and Austria in the field of pharmaceutical industries.
Discussions focused on mechanisms for localizing the manufacturing of EVER Pharma products in the Egyptian market — including oncology and intensive care medicines across various pharmaceutical forms — to ensure the sustainability of local production and enhance the availability of these products within the Egyptian market.
During the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy emphasized that the EDA attaches great importance to fostering strategic partnerships with leading international companies. He noted that cooperation with the Austrian side falls within the Authority’s vision to localize pharmaceutical manufacturing in Egypt, as part of the national strategy to achieve pharmaceutical security and strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities. He added that the EDA is committed to establishing a favorable regulatory and investment environment that reinforces Egypt’s position as a regional hub for pharmaceutical production and export.
For his part, Ambassador Postinger commended the pivotal role played by the Egyptian Drug Authority in supporting the pharmaceutical investment climate and opening new horizons for international companies to enter the Egyptian market. He affirmed that the EDA is a reliable and effective partner in advancing international cooperation.
The Ambassador further highlighted that the significant progress achieved by Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector has created promising opportunities for companies seeking regional expansion, with the Egyptian market serving as a strategic gateway to both African and Arab markets.
He also praised the EDA’s efforts in developing the legislative and regulatory infrastructure of the pharmaceutical sector, which have strengthened investor confidence and fostered a conducive business environment. He stressed that this cooperation reflects the depth of Egyptian–Austrian relations and paves the way for future partnerships.
In the same context, Mr. George Kahwaty, Global General Manager of EVER Pharma, expressed his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation with the Egyptian Drug Authority. He stated that the company considers the Egyptian market a key regional partner and looks forward to implementing ambitious plans to localize the manufacturing of specialized pharmaceuticals, thereby contributing to the advancement of healthcare in Egypt and across the region.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Yasser Ragai, Assistant to the EDA Chairman for Media Affairs and Investment Support and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Care; Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the EDA Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration of the Chairman’s Office; and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the EDA Chairman for Policy and International Cooperation and Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
The Austrian delegation included Mr. Georg Krenn, Austrian Commercial Counsellor; Ms. Heba Mostafa, Commercial Manager at the Austrian Embassy; and Ms. Maha El-Atreby, Marketing Officer at the Austrian Commercial Office.
From EVER Pharma, participants included Mr. Christoph Schneider, Head of Technical Operations; Dr. Salim Sabbagh, Regional Director for the Middle East and Africa; Dr. Osama Assad, Head of the Africa Group; and Dr. Irene Maher, Regulatory Affairs Manager.
The Egyptian Drug Authority affirmed that this meeting comes as part of its strategic approach to strengthening international cooperation and advancing the localization of pharmaceutical industries — in support of Egypt’s position as a regional hub for pharmaceutical manufacturing and trade, and in alignment with the national vision to attract investment, enhance export capabilities, and expand regional partnerships.
