As part of the initiative “An Aware Pharmacist … An Aware Society” to develop pharmaceutical practices, the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) is organizing virtual forums to promote drug awareness and the rational use of medicines.
The Egyptian Drug Authority has delivered a series of online lectures within the framework of the “An Aware Pharmacist … An Aware Society” initiative for community pharmacists working in public pharmacies, during the period from July to September 2025.
The activities included the Guide to Guide (G2G) program, which introduces pharmacists to the guidelines issued by the EDA for pharmaceutical and pharmacy practices. The program targets pharmacists across various fields, aiming to support them with the latest scientifically validated and accredited references.
Both the “An Aware Pharmacist … An Aware Society” and Guide to Guide initiatives aim to enhance the quality of pharmaceutical services and raise pharmacists’ competencies in all specialties, as part of the EDA’s continuous efforts to promote the optimal and rational use of medicines. These efforts also seek to activate training and continuous professional development programs based on international standards, ensuring the highest levels of pharmaceutical care, patient safety, and well-being.
During the forums, participants were introduced to the EDA’s guideline publications on antimicrobial agents and the first part of the Oncology Pharmacy Practice Guideline, in addition to an overview of the Authority’s efforts in various pharmaceutical care initiatives.
Throughout this period, the EDA conducted eight virtual lectures attended by 324 pharmacists, covering a range of scientific and practical topics, including chronic coronary artery disease, rational drug use in kidney patients, optimizing antibiotic use in children, sources of drug information, part one of the Rational Use of Antimicrobials series, and drug education for managing drug interactions.
These efforts reflect the EDA’s commitment to developing pharmacists’ professional capabilities and promoting community drug awareness, thereby contributing to the optimal use of medicines and improvement of healthcare quality in Egypt, while ensuring the highest standards of safety and patient protection — in line with the Authority’s vision to enhance the quality of pharmaceutical services nationwide.
