At the Egyptian Drug Authority Headquarters: Pharmacy Sector Committee Holds Its Regular Meeting to Follow Up on Academic and Administrative Files at Faculties of Pharmacy
EDA Chairman: Integration of Academic Study and Practical Application Is the Foundation for Advancing the Pharmaceutical System
The Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA) hosted today the regular meeting of the Pharmacy Sector Committee of the Ministry of Higher Education at its Mansoureya Headquarters, as part of the follow-up on several academic and administrative files related to the work of Faculties of Pharmacy in Egyptian universities.
The committee reviewed a set of topics related to the equivalency of academic degrees, accreditation of study programs, and the extent to which universities have addressed the required observations, in addition to discussing requests and grievances submitted over the recent period.
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, opened the meeting by welcoming the attendees, saying:
“I am pleased to be with you today at the Mansoureya Headquarters of the Egyptian Drug Authority, one of the Authority’s main facilities. Being among distinguished deans and professors of Faculties of Pharmacy is a source of pride and honor.”
He noted that, in addition to its headquarters in Cairo, the EDA has branch offices across all 27 governorates. The Mansoureya Headquarters—spanning nearly 22 feddans—is the largest and most significant, hosting a substantial number of central administrations and laboratories, along with ongoing expansion and construction works. The Authority also operates offices in Agouza, Manial, and Maadi, each playing an essential role in regulatory operations, in addition to the administrative headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, which enhances the Authority’s institutional presence in this vital location.
Dr. El-Ghamrawy added:
“Your presence today marks an important step toward strengthening cooperation between the academic sector and the regulatory and applied sector. Convening at the EDA reinforces scientific knowledge, which we actively work to implement in order to safeguard the pharmaceutical market and enhance the health of Egyptian citizens.”
He also emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership between the Authority and Faculties of Pharmacy to achieve full integration between academic knowledge and practical application.
The meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Abdel Nasser Sengab, Chairman of the Pharmacy Sector Committee at the Supreme Council of Universities, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan El-Shafie, Secretary of the Committee, was attended by Dr. Yousryr Nawar, Board Member of the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry; Prof. Dr. Mohy Hafez, Board Member of the Chamber of Pharmaceutical Industry and Chairman of the Export Council for Pharmaceuticals; Prof. Douglas Rainey, Professor and former Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at South Dakota State University; Dr. Maggie Nassif, Executive Director of the Fulbright Commission; as well as members from various Faculties of Pharmacy at Egyptian universities, including deans of public, private, and national universities.
The Committee reviewed several topics referred by the Supreme Council of Universities related to public universities, in addition to reports submitted by the specialized subcommittees.
It also reviewed a letter from the Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Universities regarding fifteen Bachelor of Pharmacy programs at several Egyptian universities that have obtained international accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in the United States, along with discussions on the possibility of extending this experience to other pharmaceutical specialties.
Additionally, the Committee discussed several issues related to private and national universities, including:
Delta University for Science and Technology, Deraya University, Misr International University, Badr University in Cairo, Badr University in Assiut, King Salman International University, Al-Lotus University, Mansoura National University, Innovation University, Misr El-Gadida University, Horus University, and Alamein International University.
