EDA Chairman Receives High-Level Delegation from the State of Eritrea to Strengthen Cooperation in the Pharmaceutical Sector
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority (EDA), received a high-level governmental delegation from the State of Eritrea, headed by Mr. Hagos Ghebrehiwet, Economic Advisor to the Eritrean President, and including Mr. Nasir El-Din Mohammed Saleh, Eritrean Minister of Trade and Industry, in the presence of Ambassador Mohamed Safwat, Deputy Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. The visit reflects the depth of bilateral relations and the shared commitment of both sides to strengthening cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
At the outset of the meeting, Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy welcomed the Eritrean delegation, affirming the EDA’s pride in the strong ties between the two countries and its keenness to expand areas of cooperation and exchange expertise across various aspects of pharmaceutical regulation. This contributes to the development of healthcare systems and enhances their efficiency at both regional and international levels.
During the meeting, Dr. El-Ghamrawy emphasized that the Authority places high priority on strengthening regional and international cooperation in pharmaceutical regulation. He noted that the tangible progress achieved in Egypt’s pharmaceutical system is the result of a clear strategic vision and integrated institutional efforts aimed at ensuring the availability of safe and effective medicines in line with the latest international standards.
For their part, members of the Eritrean delegation expressed their appreciation for the advanced regulatory progress achieved by the Egyptian Drug Authority, praising Egypt’s attainment of Maturity Level 3 (ML3) according to the World Health Organization (WHO) assessment. This milestone reflects the robustness of Egypt’s regulatory framework and the confidence of international institutions in the efficiency of its pharmaceutical system.
The visit also included discussions on avenues for cooperation between the Egyptian Drug Authority and the Eritrean National Medicines and Food Administration (NMFA), particularly in the areas of pharmaceutical product registration, quality control, and regulatory capacity building, thereby contributing to the development of the pharmaceutical sector and enhancing integration between both sides.
This visit reaffirms the Egyptian Drug Authority’s advanced regional standing as one of the leading regulatory models on the African continent, as well as its active role in supporting the development of pharmaceutical systems and enhancing access to safe and effective medical products.
