Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority Receives Delegation from the National Medical Products Administration of the People’s Republic of China
Dr. Ali El-Ghamrawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Drug Authority, received a high-level delegation from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA). The Chinese delegation was headed by Dr. Xu Jinghe, Deputy Commissioner of the NMPA and Chair of the Global Harmonization Working Party (GHWP), accompanied by several officials and experts from the Chinese authority. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the conclusion of the GHWP Technical Committee Leaders Meeting, hosted by the EDA in 2025.
During the meeting, discussions focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation and coordination in shared regulatory areas of interest.
For his part, Dr. El-Ghamrawy emphasized the importance of reinforcing collaboration frameworks and the exchange of expertise between the two countries in the field of medical product regulation. He noted that the EDA is deeply committed to strengthening international partnerships and broadening cooperation with peer authorities. He also highlighted the EDA’s growing international recognition, especially as the first regulatory authority in Africa to achieve Maturity Level 3 from the World Health Organization for both medicines and vaccine regulation.
The Chinese delegation commended the significant advancements achieved by Egypt’s pharmaceutical regulatory system in recent years. They expressed appreciation for the EDA’s regulatory and oversight capabilities and acknowledged the agency’s impressive implementation of international best practices.
The meeting was attended by EDA officials, including Dr. Yasin Ragaey, Assistant Chairman for Media Affairs and Investment Support and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Care; Prof. Dr. Hanan Amin, Head of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Products; Dr. Amany Gawdat, Associate to the Chairman and Supervisor of the Central Administration for the Chairman’s Office; Dr. Miriam Boulos, Head of the Central Administration for Medical Devices; Dr. Amira Mahgoub, Head of the Central Administration for Operations; and Dr. Osama Hatem, Associate to the Chairman for Policies and International Cooperation and Supervisor of the Central Administration for Pharmaceutical Policies and Market Access.
This meeting falls within the framework of the EDA’s strategic efforts to advance regulatory policy, foster global partnerships, and support the export of Egyptian medical products, in alignment with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
